This building plot is part of a larger verdant seaside estate, full of different tree species, wild flora and cultivated plants, creeks and sloping steeply to the sea. When we started the design study, there were already two buildings on the estate; one was an old house near the seaside and the other modern with a pitched roof located at the higher section of the estate. Due to the large area the lot covered, there was no need to consider any marginal coverage and building factors.

The design on the location of the residence in the lot indicated that the new structure should be independent of the other houses, with no fencing, away for the lot borders whilst the local forest should emerge behind it. Taking in to account the above criteria and the fact that the view to the sea was a crucial parameter, the designer chose to locate the new house at the highest level on the lot with a view to the sea and the east. The design was mainly focused on respect to the surrounding area, aiming for an unobtrusive, simple and discreet project.

The fact that the owners showed much trust in the designer together with their experience in building residential properties was an important and favorable element for the construction of the building.

The estate is located away from the national road and can be accessed through a rural unpaved road with intense vegetation on both sides.

The aim of the designer was that the house unexpectedly appears in view to the visitor. That is why the gate is ‘hidden’ behind a curve.

A curved road leads to the rear of the house which overlooks the forest. This is the part of the lot where a parking area has been designed.

The building has four pitched roofs determining its simple shape.

The garden is in front of the house, overlooking the sea. This is on the same level as the living room – kitchen, thus forming a continuous stretch. The swimming pool has been constructed in a Γ shape at a lower level in front of the garden.

The aesthetics of the building entail stone lining on the facades, wooden frames, slab tiles on the roof and wooden pergolas.

The house enhances two major features: the importance of blending a building with the environment and the importance of using excellent quality materials. Simple and premium quality materials applied correctly provide a smooth blending with the environment, unobtrusive for any visitor, and they simply create a sense of harmony and calmness.
