To fulfill the mission of the Operational Program 2015-2019 of the Municipality of Thessaloniki, local development planning was compiled. In the context of environmental development and quality of life, several projects were proposed and executed through SNF.
1. CREATION OF TOURIST WALK (WALKING AREA ROTONTA - APOSTOLOU PAYLOU STR – CASTLE STR – UPPER TOWN OF THESSALONIKI)
The project concerns the creation of a tourist walk, starting from Rotonda and through Castle street and Apostolos Pavlos street leading to the Upper Town with the restoration of the natural continuity of various archaeological sites and the eastern wall, the cemeteries of the Protestants and the Armenian community as well as the preserved machine shop of Axilithiotes. The monuments of each historical period will be included in the overall configuration grid. The main goal of the project is whether it is the tourist or the city's inhabitant to enjoy an upgraded cultural benefit from the visit and to make a pleasant trip.
The proposed project includes two sub-projects:
The redevelopment area includes a part of the Castle Street, and the area between the Roman-Byzantine Eastern Walls and the preserved monuments, namely the Auxilithioti Machine Shop and the Cemeteries of Protestants and Armenians.
The revival concerns the conversion of Apostolou Pavlou Street to a low traffic street, in the section from Agios Dimitrios str. to Melenikou str. and to a pedestrian street, in the section from Melenikou str. to K. Manolakis str.
It also concerns the redevelopment of the Apostolos Paulos section at the Turkish Consulate as a reception area, stop and pedestrian walk (meeting point).
